scholarship

The Solamaya Scholarship was established through the Princess Trust in support of the education for tribal women. It is the first step in efforts to provide much needed financial aid to cover the costs of boarding, registration, fees, books, clothes and travel. In 2007, the scholarship was awarded to Koiheli Simsang of Pirgacha Village who is currently attending Dhanbari College. Koiheli's mother is a cook at the Mission in Pirgacha, and her father is dead. After completing her education she intends to return to home and teach at one of the many schools that are run by women. There are numerous deserving recipients of the tribal population that has an 85% literacy rate, and it is important that the women have access to educational resources being that they are responsible for their society's integral human development programs.

The Solamaya Scholarship will assist in the completion of Koiheli's education so that she may return to Pirgacha and help others. In Koiheli's own words, she says "I am very grateful for this offer to pay for my studies. There is a lot of trouble for tribals in Bangladesh."

To support more tribal people like Koeheli, please read about The Holy Cross Mission.
